love and quilting

Quilt stores can sell a variety of products; threads, patterns, battings and other goods used for quilting. They also have classes, and sewing groups where you can learn how to sew and learn from others, as well as selling machines or they will even do work for you.
Quilting started for warmth and protection. The history of quilts began in Asia in the first century and Europe followed in the fifth century. Early objects were found with Egyptian cotton which is proof that they were making quilts with cotton then. Most women were busy spinning cotton, weaving, and making clothing in American Colonial times. Quilts in the early 19th century were not made of small blocks but instead of whole cloth quilts.
In early pioneer days paper quilting was common. Quilting Bees were the major communication for new and local events. Quilts made without batting were called summer quilts, and only good on a cool day.
Girls started quilting when they were very young, learning and gradually developing their skills. It was the usual practices that a girl made 12 ordinary quilts and when she made the next one it was "special" and she was ready for marriage.
African American women developed their own style of quilting, somewhat different from Amish-Mennonite style. Hawaiian quilts seems to have similar patterns of ocean waves. In the 20th century art quilts have become popular, artistic rather than for warmth. There are many quilt shows, local and international with competition for prize money. Many designers and companies are extremely popular with different original artistic works and colors. Plastic templates of geometric, floral applique, and abstract designs. There are many types of quilts today, from hand made to machine made, besides the combination.
